Sports Minister Assures 2018 Asian Games Arena Ready in June

The Youth and Sports Minister (Menpora) Imam Nahrawi assured the sports arena of Asian Games 2018 which is still under construction, will be completed by the end of June.

“The squash sports arena in Gelora Bung Karno complex (GBK), Senayan, has yet finished, while in Jakabaring, Palembang, there are shooting and rowing arena,” said the Minister while monitoring GBK complex, Jakarta, today, April 5.

Imam Nahrawi claimed the other sports arenas in Jakarta, Palembang, or West Java and Banten have been ready based on its expected target. “Those arenas should be a momentum for the people after Asian Games,” he stated.

Previously, the Asian Games 2018 Organizing Committee (INASGOC) demanded the sports and demonstration sports arena to be ready prior to 100 days of the multi-sports event or at the beginning of May.

“We expected the construction of 94 sports match and demonstration sports halls to be completed in D-100. If any arena has yet ready, it should be only one or two arenas,” said the Sec-Gen of INASGOC Eris Herryanto.

INASGOC has prepared 76 sports match arena and training hall and 27 arenas for demonstration sports and its training arena for 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang.

“We did not set the minimal sports arena because each sport has its own standard. But the match arena and training arena are required by Olympic Council of Asia (OCA),” Eris explained.

Jakarta Regional Administration along with South Sumatra and West Java Administrations, according to Eris, have helped the preparation of the 2018 Asian Games arena which based on international standard. “Jakarta officials have provided 10 sports stadiums, including Simprug stadium for Volley,” he added.
