The Kinks ‘Frontman’ hints band getting back together

The British rocker The Kinks, famous for a string of 1960s songs including “You Really Got Me” and “Waterloo Sunset” may be back together after 20 years, frontman Ray Davies said.

Davies, 74, told British Channel 4 that he had worked in a studio with two surviving friends – his brother Dave Davies and drummer Mick Avory – and they “made a new Kinks album”.

Pete Quaife, who was in the original line-up, died in 2010.

Davies said in an interview that his brothers and Avory “never got along well but I have made the job in the studio and it makes me eager to make them play harder, and with fire”.

“I have all the songs I wrote for the band when we – did not break up, and I think this is the right time to do it,” he added.

But when asked directly whether the iconic band was reunited, he replied: “Officially we … in the pub later”.

Formed in 1964 at Muswell Hill, north London by the Davies brothers, the group became one of the most influential rock bands of the 1960s. Some of their most famous songs also include “Sunny Afternoon”, “Lola” and “Tired of Waiting For You”.

The group continued to play into the 1970s and 1980s, with a total of 24 studio albums under their belts. In the 1990s, bands like Blur and Oasis cited the influence of The Kinks on their own music but the popularity of the group declined and they parted ways.
