Sapardi Djoko Damono Receives 2018 ASEAN Book Award
An Indonesian poet Sapardi Djoko Damono received the 2018 ASEAN Book Award for two of his books; Hujan Bulan Juni (A June Rain) and Yang Fana Adalah Waktu (Time is Mortal).
The award was given in Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair held at Putra World Trade Center, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Saturday, April 28. “The letter from the Malaysian government declared Hujan Bulan Juni as ASEAN’s best book of poetry,” Gramedia Pustaka Utama (GPU) said on its Twitter account on Saturday, April 28.
Gramedia uploaded two photos showing Hujan Bulan Juni received the Best Compilation Book category award in the 2018 ASEAN Book Award.
The book Yang Fana Adalah Waktu, which is the third trilogy of Hujan Bulan Juni, received the category of Prolific Writing.
The 78-year-old poet has received awards for his works for a few times. In 1978, Sapardi Djoko Damono received a Cultural Award from Australia. In addition, he has also received the Son Poetry Award from Malaysia in 1983.
Sapardi Djoko Damono is known as one of the poets whose poems are favored by the people of Indonesia. He started his work entitled Duka-Mu Abadi (Your Sorrow Eternal) in 1969.
Until now, many of his works have been enjoyed, even Hujan Bulan Juni was adapted into a movie in 2017.
