Sandiaga Uno Comments on Sunday`s CFD Incident

Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno has regretted the political clash during Sunday’s Car Free Day (CFD). Sandiaga said the government-initiated event should have been conducive and bereft of political elements.

“We call on [the people] not to misuse [the event] by committing divisive acts,” he said at the National Library on Sunday, April 29, 2018.

According to the Gubernatorial Decree No. 12 Year 2016 on Motor Vehicles Free Day, Sandiaga explained, political events were barred from CFD areas. “We will coordinate with Elections Supervisory Agency on how to deal with this,” he said.

Earlier, a video went viral online showing people donning T-shirts emblazoned with the hashtag#2019GantiPresiden [#ChangethePresident] intimidating a number of people wearing T-shirts with the hashtag #DiaSibukKerja [#HeisBusyWorking]—a hashtag coined in support of President Jokowi’s reelection.

The incident took place at around the Hotel Indonesia roundabout in Central Jakarta during CFD on Sunday, April 29, 2018.

Sandiaga Uno said the investigation into the incident by the Jakarta administration was still afoot, and that the administration was still awaiting coordination results.

“We are waiting for the results, we will look into this matter, and we will take stern action,” he said.
