Indonesian Swimmers To Train In U.S. For Asian Games

Indonesian swimmers headed to the Asian Games will undergo training and a tournament in the United States in an effort to boost their performance at the continental sports event scheduled to start on Aug. 18.

A total of five athletes will undergo the training in Los Angeles and have a try-out match, which is scheduled from May 1 to August 1 of this year, in the Unites States, Kompas media reported on Friday.

Two of the five swimmers will leave for Los Angeles on April 29, and three others will follow them.

“We will have an interview with the U.S. embassy on May 7, after that we will immediately leave (for Los Angeles)”, said Albert C. Susanto, coach of Indonesian national team.

Besides the training, Susanto disclosed that the swimmers will take part in a tournament in the United States.

One of the priorities in the training, he stressed, is for the athletes to shorten their time to reach finish.

Indonesia has set a target of two gold medals in swimming during the Asian Games this year, according to the country’s youth and sport ministry.

The 18th Asian Games are scheduled to be held in Indonesian capital of Jakarta and in Palembang city, the provincial capital of South Sumatra province from August 18 to September 2.
