Online Motorcycle Taxi Drivers set to Hold Rally at DPR HQ

The online motorcycle taxi drivers’ community will once again hold a massive rally today in front of the House of Representatives (DPR) in Senayan, Jakarta.

“We estimate there will be 5,000 to 20,000 people participating,” said Igun Wicaksono, Chairman of the Indonesian online transport service association (PPTJDI) today.

The rally that is dubbed the ‘234 Act’ by the community will see online motorcycle taxi drivers demanding an increase in subsidized tariff from application service providers up to Rp3,000 to Rp4,000 per kilometer and demand legal platforms for their existence.

Igun added that the rally participants will arrive from regions across Indonesia and that he apologizes for the traffic congestion that the rally will create at several sections of the protocol street outside of the DPR headquarters.

Igun asserted that the rally is a follow-up of the previous online motorcycle taxi protest that took place in front of the State Palace in Central Jakarta. “Because the lawmakers are the Indonesian House of Representatives or DPR,” said Igun.
