PSSI: National Football Team Must Reach Top 10 in Asian Games
The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) targets the Indonesian national football team competing at the 2018 Asian Games to reach top 10 position. Previously, the association expected the national football team to reach the semifinals.
PSSI’s is very much different as already proclaimed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and also President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo. At that time, both stakeholders want the Indonesian national team through to the last four.
Secretary General of PSSI, Ratu Tisha Destria, said the Ministry of Sports also asked the Indonesian national team to secure top four position. However, PSSI does not want to specifically define the target for the four-yearly multievent.
“Based on the composition, and our rise that just started in 2016, PSSI only targets a minimum of top 10,” Tisha said to reporters.
PSSI has discussed with the Ministry of Sports on the specific preparations of Indonesia for the 2018 Asian Games. The preparation includes preparing the performance of the Indonesian national team, and designing the agenda of the Indonesian national team well.
One of the most highlighted is the synchronizing of football clubs’ schedule with the Indonesian national team. Without the clash of training schedule with the club, preparation of the Indonesian national team can run well.
“We hope to achieve the target well, be it the schedule and the training program. This meeting answers the hope of Indonesian to succeed the Asian Games,” Tisha said.
Four years ago in Incheon, Indonesian national team lost in round 16 of the Asian Games. At that time Indonesia lost 1-4 from North Korea.
