Police to Deploy More Anti-Terror Squads in Regions

The National Police planned to deploy more officers of anti-terror squad Densus 88 in Indonesian regions next year following many threats occurred recently.

“The number now is 16, we’ll add up to 34 units next year,” said National Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian in Parliament Complex, Senayan, on Tuesday, June 6.

The plan was one of the reasons for the police demanded an additional budget of Rp44.4 trillion from budget ceiling set by Finance Ministry at Rp76.9 trillion. “Not only for that, but also other priority programs,” Tito said.

Tito explained the police initially proposed the budget of 2019 at Rp126.8 to the ministry in which including the security budget for the elections.

“The figure was far from our recommendation and 2018 budget. It will likely affect the employee budget we have targeted to increase by 70 percent in 2019,” he said.

Tito considered the budget will possibly affect the police’s performance. He also mentioned the budget for building facilities was not sufficient.

Thus, National Police held a trilateral meeting with Finance Ministry and National Development Planning Agency and made a suggestion to the House of Representatives (DPR) to discuss the matter on House’s Budgetary Board.
