Volleyball: Poles lose to Germany as winning streak ends

The Polish men’s national volleyball team has been beaten 1-3 by Germany, a defeat that ended the Poles’ winning streak in the new Nations League.

Poland lost 18:25, 21:25, 25:21, 25:27 against Germany on Sunday in the central Polish city of Łódź.

The Polish squad on Saturday beat China 3-0 in their fifth straight win in the league.
The Poles, playing under Belgian coach Vital Heynen, earlier in the tournament beat South Korea 3-0 in the southern Polish city of Katowice, and defeated Russia in Kraków, in Poland’s south, with the same score.’

The Polish team defeated Canada 3-1 in their third Volleyball Nations League match, and followed up with a 3-0 victory against France.

The Poles next take on Japan, Bulgaria and Italy at the weekend in the Japanese city of Osaka, after which they will play further rounds in the United States and Australia.

The Volleyball Nations League is a new idea from the FIVB, the sport’s international governing body. The men’s international volleyball tournament is contested by 16 national teams and replaces the World Grand Prix.
