Jakarta Index Closes Higher on Tuesday

The Jakarta composite index (IHSG) closed 1.28 percent higher on Tuesday on positive domestic sentiment with the country`s improved economic data, analysts said.

The index of the Indonesian Stock Exchange (BEI) grew 79.68 points to close at 6,325.81 points with index of 45 most liquid stocks (LQ45) up 1.73 percent to 1,039.60 points.

Analyst of Indosurya Bersinar Sekuritas William Surya Wijaya said the country`s economic data showed improvement with growing retail sales prompting investors to buy shares.

“Our economic fundamental strengthened giving greater chance of IHSG to grow higher ahead,” he said.

A survey by Bank Indonesia showed an increase in retail sales indicating improvement in the retail sector in February, 2018, he said.

Foreign investors began to buy more shares pushing the IHSG to a positive area, he said adding the Stock Exchange recorded a foreign net buy of Rp10.12 billion in Tuesday`s trading.

Trade on Tuesday recorded 426,047 transactions with 7.987 billion worth Rp7.214 trillion changing hand. Gainers outnumbered decliners by 221 to 149 with 117 other shares flat.

Regional markets including Nikkei, Hang Seng and Straits Times recorded an increase in index.
