Asian Games 2018: These 3 Senior Players in the South Korean National Team
The South Korean Football Association (KFA) is calling on foreign clubs to immediately release the U-23 players called up in the 2018 Asian Games squad. It was revealed by South Korea’s U-23 football national coach Kim Hak-bum on Monday , July 16th.
The South Korean squad for the Asian Games has five U-23 players who are working in overseas clubs. Some of them include Lee Seung-woo from Hellas Verona in Italy and Hwang Hee-chan from FC Red Bull Salzburg in Austria. Both Lee and Hwang also play in the 2018 World Cup.
“We first want to thank all these clubs for releasing their players,” Kim said. “However, we have not reached an agreement on their release date, so KFA is looking for a way to confirm the date.”
Together with Son, for players over the age of 23 Kim chooses goalkeeper Jo Hyeon-woo (Daegu FC), who showed impressive performances at the 2018 World Cup. One last name he decided to bring striker Hwang Ui-jo from Japanese club Gamba Osaka . Jo will be 27 in September, while Hwang will turn 26 in August. Hwang himself is ranked third most goalscorer in the Japanese League with 7 goals.

Kim said South Korea will use the 3-5-2 formation as their main formation during the Asian Games, with Son and Hwang at the front. He also admitted the selection of the Asian Games squad itself is based on the techniques and endurance players.
“I’m really good at using formations with four defenders, but after seeing our players I think that the three defenders will be the most effective tactics for us,” Kim said.
South Korea is in a group with Kyrgyzstan, Malaysia and Bahrain in Group E. South Korea itself is a defending champion at the Asian Games and also the most gold medalist in men’s soccer with Iran.
