Asian Games 2018: Preparation Has 96 Percent, Participants 16 Thousand

Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Affairs Puan Maharani said preparations for the 2018 Asian Games has reached 96 percent.

“God willing, everything is 96 percent, just technical problems,” said Puan after attending the peak of National Family Day XXV in Manado on Saturday.

Puan during a visit to the North Sulawesi boxing training center is optimistic that all the support infrastructure of the Asian Games can be completed on time. “If all the arena facilities have been completed, we just wait for the readiness of the athletes to raise the flag of Merah Putih, achievement in the Asian Games,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Organizing Committee of the Asian Games 2018 (INASGOC) confirmed the total number of athletes and officials of the Asian Games participants as much as 16 thousand people following the closing of the registration of participants on 30 June 2018.

“The latest data that came to us, the number of athletes of participants reached about 11 thousand people.If there is an additional official, the total number of participants will reach about 16 thousand people.This number exceeds the target participants we expect,” said INASGOC Chairman Erick Thohir on Thursday .

Erick said the increase in Asian Games participants compared to the INASGOC estimate means the confidence of 45 Asian Games contingents on Indonesia as the host.

“We immediately charted each team will practice where, the location of the match, as well as service to the athletes and officials of each contingent,” said Erick who also serves as Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI).

The number of 2018 Asian Games participants, according to Erick, increased 20 percent compared to participants at the 2014 Asian Games Incheon following the number of sports competed by 40 branches with 465 match numbers.

“We will also prepare the consequences for the 20 percent increase of the participants, such as catering, buses, the preparation of audience seats, and others,” Erick said.
