After World Cup, Son Heung-min Strengthen Korea in Asian Games 2018
After appearing in the 2018 World Cup, Son Heung-min will strengthen South Korea in the 2018 Asian Games. The player has received permission from his club, Tottenham Hotspur, to spend his first month in the new Premier League season 2018/2019.
Son proves his status as a South Korean star player with two goals in the World Cup. However, her dissemination of South Korea from the group phase kept her from getting a postponement of the obligation to do military service for 21 months in her country. The gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games will help him to get the suspension.
Spurs actually have no obligation to release players who will be 26 years old, because the Asian Games is not part of FIFA’s official calendar. However, the club is currently discussing with Korean football leaders. Moreover, Son indicated he wanted to compete in the tournament as his wildcard.
Spurs are expected to allow Son to compete, in the hope that he can avoid conscription. The military service in South Korea is a duty for all able-bodied South Korean men up to the age of 28 years.
Tottenham’s trip in the English Premier League will start with Newcastle’s host on 11 August. The Asian Games started exactly three days later, with the final on 1 September. If South Korea succeeds in reaching the final, Son will certainly miss the first four games of the season, against Newcastle, Fulham, Manchester United and Watford.
The current situation is getting more complicated as the next Asian Cup 2019 will be held in January in the United Arab Emirates. As a FIFA tournament, South Korea has the right to call Son. It is estimated that Spurs can allow Son to compete in the Asian Games, but on condition South Korea should allow her to miss the Asian Cup.
The Asian Games is a multicabdang championship in Asia. In football, every country must send players under the age of 23 (U-23), but may be equipped with three senior players. The tournament will be held in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia.
