Mount Agung Erupts, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Operates Normally

Mount Agung in the Bali area erupted again on Monday night, July 2 at 09:04 WITA (Central Indonesia Time). Corporate Secretary of PT Angkasa Pura I (AP l) Israwadi said, to date, I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport is still operating normally.

He explained that the volcanic ash from Mount Agung eruption has not affected the airport and flight operations.

“The airport is currently operating normally, there is no impact,” said Israwadi on Monday, July 2.

Head of Information and Public Relations Data Center of National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) Sutopo Purwo Nugroho also explained that the eruption has not affected the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport or other airports in the vicinity such as Airports in Banyuwangi, Jember and Lombok.

Sutopo said the eruption of Mount Agung tonight issued lava incandescent with a distance up to 2 kilometers. The throwing of the incandescent stone was due to the pressure from inside the crater. The forests around the summit crater of Mount Agung were burning so that the fire was quite great in some areas.

The incandescent lava from the summit of Mount Agung led to the eastern to northeastern slopes of the Culik and Dukuh areas of Karangasem Regency.

“It also leads to the west and south. As a result, the forest at the top of the crater burned quite broadly,” he said. However, Sutopo explained that the volcanic ash was more dominantly moving towards the West.

According to Sutopo, the current status of Mount Agung remains at level 3 or standby with a danger radius reaching 4 kilometers from the crater.

“The people around Gunung Agung immediately conduct an independent evacuation,” he said.

Sutopo appealed to the public to remain calm and not to be hooked on issues that have not been clarified.

“Use all the information related to the volcanoes from the PVMBG as an official institution,” Sutopo said.

He said people who evacuated are advised not to come out of Karangasem regency and enough in KRB II area to facilitate the handling of refugees. BNPB and BPBD continue to coordinate with PVMBG, BMKG and other parties related to Mount Agung eruption.
