Indonesia broke five weightlifting records in three classes during the sixth weightlifting test held by Indonesia`s weightlifting and bodybuilding board (PB PABBSI). The event was held in the preparation of the 2018 Asian Games.

“The record-breaking performance was not initially planned. The record had lasted for decades,” said PB PABBSI Deputy Chairman Joko Pramono on Thursday, June 28.

The three Indonesian athletes contribute to the record-breaking performance are I Ketut Ariana in the men’s 77 kilograms, Sri Wahyuni in the 48 kilograms, while Nurul Akmal broke the 75+ kilogram weight lift.

Ketut managed to lift 154 kilograms to surpass the national lifting record made during the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Meanwhile, Sri Wahyuni managed to lift 153 kilograms during the test event.

Weightlifter Sri Wahyuni also successfully clean and jerked 112 kilograms, defeating the 16-year-old national record of 110 kilograms. Meanwhile, the 75 kilograms-plus class, managing to lift 135 kilograms, Nurul Akmal defeated the previous record set by her in 2016 of 133 kilograms.
