Neutrality of Indonesian Military and Police is Absolute: President
President Joko Widodo affirmed that the neutrality of the Indonesian National Military (TNI) and Indonesian National Police (Polri) during the elections of regional heads was absolute.
“Neutrality of TNI, Polri, and National Intelligence Agency (BIN) is absolute during the implementation of general and regional head elections,” he said after visiting the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on Monday.
He has conveyed to the Polri Chief, TNI Commander, and Head of BIN to always maintain neutrality in the democratic party.
He also asked the whole Indonesian society to jointly oversee the order of the implementation of general and regional head elections.
He stated that violations during the elections will be dealt with firmly.
“If you come across a party that is not neutral, please report it to the Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu),” he explained.
In addition, during his working visits to the Indonesian regions, he also continued to remind the public to maintain harmony and unity after the general and regional head elections.
He hoped the Indonesian society would not be hostile to each other and sacrifice the nation`s unity because of different choices in politics.
Meanwhile, the 2018 regional head elections will be held in 171 regions, consisting of 17 provinces, 39 cities, and 115 districts.
