Jakarta Administration Holds Idul Fitri Gathering
The Jakarta administration held an open house gathering event at City Hall, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, several days after when it is usually held, on the first day of Idul Fitri.
The public event coincided with the first work day for civil servants following an extended Idul Fitri holiday.
Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and his deputy Sandiaga Uno started to greet civil servants at City Hall at 8 a.m.
Throughout the event, Anies and Sandiaga were accompanied by their wives.
Sandiaga’s mother, Mien Uno, also joined her son in the gathering.
Last year, a video of Mien Uno kissing the feet of Titiek Soeharto, the daughter of New Order president Soeharto, went viral shortly after a quick count, which showed that the majority of voters were in favor of Anies and Sandiaga becoming the next Jakarta governor and deputy governor, respectively.
Sandiaga previously announced that there would be no open house at City Hall because civil servants must be allowed to enjoy their holiday without having to go to the office.
Former Jakarta governors such as Djarot Saiful Hidayat, Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Fauzi Bowo held open houses at City Hall on the first day of Idul Fitri every year. Members of the public could attend and meet the governor and eat meals provided by the city administration.
