Bawaslu Confident Regional Head Election will Run Safely
The Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) head Abhan expressed his optimism at the 2018 Regional Head Election will run safely. The voting and its counting are scheduled to take place on June 27, 2018, in less than two weeks.
Bawaslu as the supervisory agency will ensure there will be no political campaign during the quiet period and that the campaign tools will be removed on June 24-26, 2018. “We will deploy supervisors to tighten the security,” said Abhan in his office, on Sunday, June 10.
Abhan explained the agency had mapped the voting booths (TPS) indicated susceptible to natural disaster. “For example, the area prone to flash flood, so we prepared other locations,” he said.
As for the potential money politics, Abhan noted, Bawaslu strived to hold the maximum prevention efforts. “It could be seen that the trend on money politics reduced,” he added.
Furthermore, the elections watchdog Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem) executive director Titi Anggraini reminded, amidst the competitive rivalry of regional heads, the organizer and supervisor should highly be committed to creating a fair election with integrity.
“The workload of the election organizers is very hard. Influences from outside party will likely come. KPU and Bawasly should ensure the professionalism and integrity of the election organizer from the center until the regions,” said Titi.
