Rizieq Shihab Asks 4 Parties to Form Coalition
The coalition of Gerindra Party and Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) have the potential to have the additional partner to propose the presidential candidate in the 2019 presidential election. The National Mandate Party (PAN) and the Crescent Star Party (PBB) are expected to join soon.
The signs of coalition formation became stronger after Gerindra Party Chairman Prabowo Subianto and PAN Honorary Council Chairman Amien Rais met the figure of 212 Alumni Brotherhood (PA 212) Rizieq Shihab in Mecca, Saudi Arabia on Saturday, June 2.
DPP PAN Honorary Council Dradjad Wibowo confirmed that the meeting agreed on the need for communication increase of four political parties before the presidential election and legislative elections in 2019.
However, the formalities of his party joining the Joint Secretariat of Gerindra-PKS, which has been formed, will be determined through the decision of the PAN National Work Meeting in the near future.
“How will the result, we will wait. Between political parties, of course, the communication continues,” he said when confirmed on Sunday, June 3.
PA 212 Public Relation Division Chairman Novel Bamukmin said the meeting in Mecca was a follow up of the National Coordination Meeting of PA 212, which resulted in the recommendation of criteria and names of candidates for president and vice presidential candidate.
According to Novel, to Prabowo and Amien, Rizieq Shihab stated that Gerindra, PKS, PAN, and PBB formed the ‘People Coalition’.
“We hope PAN and PBB formally join Gerindra and PKS. Habib Rizieq also stated he only support the candidates proposed by the coalition and blessed by the 212 ulema,” he said.
Related to the coalition mainstay, Novel said PA 212 is still referring to the results of National Coordination Meeting. The five names of candidates and nine names of vice presidential candidates appear to be submitted to the coalition.
