Police Chief Anticipates Criminal Acts during Eid Holiday

National police chief Tito Karnavian said he would be aware of any crime; be it theft or terrorism, during the 2018 Eid holiday. Police also set up some strategies to maintain the security during the homecoming and returning period.

According to Tito, his personnel will watch over from every post built in the terminals, airports, stations and harbors to maintain the security. The police, he said, also will crack down any street thugs who disturb the society.

“At the Cipta Kondisi Operation, all the thugs will be cracked, captured or charged with any possible action,” he said after attended the limited meeting about the preparation of Eid Al-Fitr in Presidential Office, Jakarta on Tuesday, May 30.

Furthermore, Tito commanded his staff to ensure there was no raid or sweeping towards nightclubs during Ramadhan by certain community organizations. A raid, he said, could only be done by police.

Tito appealed to the community organization to report to the police rather than do the sweeping when they found out there was a probability of rules breaching in nightclubs. “Just report to police and we will take action,” he said.

President Joko Widodo demanded the police chief’s report on the steps to be taken to maintain the stability of security towards and during the 2018 Eid Holiday. “I’m sure the strong coordination between TNI (military), Police and BIN (state intelligence agency) is enough for prevention and deterrence towards disturbing potential of security and discipline.”
