AP I Tighten Security in 13 Airports Post Surabaya Bombings

State-owned airline operator PT Angkasa Pura I (Ap I) has increased security at 13 airports managed after Surabaya bombings in a bid to anticipate the bombing threat in the airport public spaces.

“Various measures of safety and security have been applied to prevent further bombings or other terror acts in the airport’s public facilities because it is a vital object of the state,” said AP I President Director Faik Fahmi, noted in the written statement received by Tempo on Monday, May 14.

Referred to the official website of AP I, the 13 airports include I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport, Denpasar; Juanda Airport, Surabaya; Sultan Hasanuddin Airport, Makassar; Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan Airport, Balikpapan; Frans Kaisiepo Airport, Biak; and Sam Ratulangi Airport, Manado.

There are also Syamsudin Noor Airport, Banjarmasin; Ahmad Yani Airport, Semarang; Adisutjipto Airport, Yogyakarta; Adi Soemarmo Airport, Surakarta; Lombok International Airport, Central Lombok; Pattimura Airport, Ambon; and El Tari Airport, Kupang.

According to Faik, the efforts have been running since Sunday, May 13. AP I, Faik added, has deployed more walking patrols at some point and doing profiling measure through CCTV. Ap I is also synergized with the Security Task Force (Satgaspam) to monitor and randomly check vehicles coming in and out of the airport area.

“Various efforts to increase the security might cause a load at the airport considering the higher frequency of vehicle inspection process in the area,” said Faik.
