INASGOC Cooperates With Cyber Coding Agency to Secure Asian Games
The organizers of the 2018 Asian Games, the INASGOC, has cooperated with the National Cyber and Coding Agency to improve the information system security and to prevent it from being hacked during the Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang in August.
Vice President Jusuf Kalla held a closed-door meeting with Chief of the Agency Djoko Setiadi, Chief de Mission Asian Games and Police Comr. M Syafruddin, Minister of Communications and Informatics Rudiantara, and INASGOC Chairman Erick Thohir at the Vice Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Thursday .
“In this era, we have to anticipate cyber attacks. We should consider the incident that took place during the Winter Olympics in Korea, when there was a delay of one hour in the opening due to a cyber attack in the ticketing system, Head of the INASGOC Erick Thohir remarked.
He further noted that the involvement of BSSN and a number of intelligence agencies, related to the information technology system used in the Asian Games, has been supported online.
“We do have to anticipate it, as we are almost fully using virtual platforms for ticketing. Everything is in the `cloud,` with WiFi and the internet,” he revealed.
The Asian Games, as an arena of international sports competition, requires high level of security, considering that many countries are involved in the event.
Syafruddin added that the South Korean experience on cyber disruptions at the opening of the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, which led to the delay in starting the event, has also become a lesson for INASGOC in the 2018 Asian Games.
“In my experience, attending the Winter Olympics in Korea, there was an incident of cyber attacks against the ticketing system, causing a disturbance to the event,” he explained.
However, Indonesians need not be worried of a similar incident happening in the 2018 Asian Games.
“There is nothing to worry about, because international sympathy for Indonesia is quite high. Our neighboring countries are solid enough to support this organization, “he pointed out.
