BTS Continues ‘Most Beautiful Moment In Life’ Narrative Ahead of ‘Love Yourself: Tear’ Release

Anticipation is building for BTS’ upcoming Love Yourself: Tear album, and the latest teaser from BTS’ label Big Hit Entertainment further connects this release to past storytelling eras from the Korean boy band.

In a post shared through the company’s Twitter on Thursday (May )3, Big Hit released the latest in their “The Most Beautiful Moment In Life: The Notes” series. The message was written in Korean and appears to be a diary entry from member Jungkook dated “22 May Year 22.” It describes a traumatic, near-death experience and ends with a distant voice asking, “Living will be even more painful than dying, but even so do you still want to live?”

A reference in title to both their 2015-16 Most Beautiful Moment In Life album series and Wong Kar Wai’s 2000 film In The Mood For Love — which uses the same Chinese characters as BTS’ albums — the Notes have also tied into their music videos and other related content, including promotional videos and teaser images. Those bits of content have relayed a creative narrative filled with loss, death, love, and friendship surrounding the group’s music.

On Twitter, fans were quick to begin translating the latest Note in full, and begin exploring theories related to the group’s past releases.

BTS’ third LP Love Yourself: Tear will be released on May 18. They will perform new music at the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas on May 20, where they were are nominated for the Top Social Artist award, which they won last year.
