India Varsity Cancels Honorary Degree to Bachchan
A university in West Bengal, India, has cancelled the conferment of an honorary degree to Amitabh Bachchan after the Bollywood superstar said he was unable to attend the ceremony.
The actor was tied up with shooting commitments, Tamil Nesan reported
The state-run Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata had earlier announced that the honorary Doctor of Literature would be awarded to Bachchan during its convocation on May 8.
A number of online commentators defended the actor, saying he was merely committed to his acting job.
The university was set up in 1962 to mark the birth centenary of the legendary Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore, the first Indian and Asian recipient of the Nobel Prize for Literature.
