Indonesian Gymnasts Expected to Qualify For Youth Olympics

Indonesian Youth and Sport Minister Nahrawi said on Wednesday that he expects the country’s young gymnastic athletes to pass qualification for the youth Olympic Games in Argentina this year.

Nahrawi made the statement after opening the 15th Junior Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships here at Senayan sport stadium, where a total of 20 teams will take part in the event.

“This event will give our athletes the chance to get know their foreign opponents. Hopefully from this tournament our athletes will head to the youth Olympics in Argentina,” he said.

The Youth Olympics are scheduled to be played in Buenos Aires, Argentina on October 1-6 of this year.

Head of sport development of the country association Dian Arifin said that the association expects at least one male athlete and one female athlete will make it to the junior Olympics in Argentina.

Indonesia has dispatched five young male gymnastic athletes and five junior female gymnasts for the Asian Championships, said Dian.
