Democrat Credits Anies Baswedan: He`s a President-like Governor

A politician of Democrat Party Taufiqurrahman credited Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan following the governor meeting with Turkey President Recep Tayib Erdogan on Friday, April 20 in Istanbul, Turkey.

“He [Anies], for me, is a president-like governor. Anies accepted an invitation from the Istanbul governor as the Jakarta governor, but he was warmly welcomed by the Turkish President,” said Taufiqurrahman in a written statement dated Monday, April 23.

The deputy chairman III of Democrat Regional Representatives Council (DPD) stated Anies has succeeded to form a friendly relationship with the Muslim country leader, Erdogan. According to him, Anies has been placed in a special post by Erdogan.

“He was invited to perform Jumu’ah prayer together and specially placed to stand next to Erdogan,” said the Democrat faction head of the Jakarta Parliament.

According to Taufiqurrahman, Anies Baswedan and Erdogan are both a Muslim scholar and have a similar background. Erdogan was said to have previously acted as the governor of Istanbul City.
