AFC Cup 2018: Goal’s Player of The Week – Persija Jakarta’s Marko Simic
Indonesian outfit Persija Jakarta went top of Group H in the AFC Cup 2018 with a resounding 4-o victory over Malaysia’s Johor Darul Ta’zim on Tuesday.
It was their Croatian forward Marko Simic who played the role of the protagonist for them to perfection to help them win three crucial points at home. He led the lines with efficiency and scored a whopping four goals to stun the Malaysian team.
Marko Simic got on the end of a perfectly weighted cross from Riko Simanjuntak and fired Persija into the lead in the 8th minute. He doubled their lead with a thunderous header from Rezaldi Hehanusa’s pinpoint free-kick, just four minutes later.
In the 19th minute, he completed his hat-trick Riko and Ramandi Lestaluhu set up Simic to leave Johor in disbelief. Late on, Simic would score a fourth goal from the penalty spot as the Malaysian side wilted away.
The forward played the entire ninety minutes for Persija and tallied four shots on target while also completing 65% of his attempted passes.
Ultimately, his goals have powered Persija to an important win and Simic is rightly named as Goal’s Asian Player of the Week!
Congrats Marko!
