Indonesian to Ride Motorbike from Jakarta to London
Stephen Langitan has set out on an adventure to travel 30,000 kilometers from Jakarta to London using only a motorbike.
As reported by Antara, Stephen has chosen to ride a Kawasaki Versys-X 250cc throughout the 145-day journey, which started Sunday. Fueled by a mission to inspire younger generations, Stephen’s journey would see him cross the finish line on Indonesia’s Independence Day, which falls on Aug. 17.
“Through this activity, I hope to spread passion among young people. I am traveling alone across 30,000 kilometers and that requires mental strength and discipline. Young people must have determination and dreams,” Stephen said on Sunday in Jakarta.
In explaining his choice for London, Stephen said there were already established routes and he would only need to cross the sea twice at the start of his journey.
“I only need to cross from Java to Sumatra and then cross to Malaysia,” Stephen said.
Supported by PT Pertamina Lubricants, a subsidiary of state-run oil and gas firm Pertamina, the company aims to commemorate the nation, with Stephen set to use Indonesian-made lubricant Pertamina Enduro on the road.
“We are proud to support the dream and determination of the nation’s people to travel around the world with the country’s name,” Pertamina Lubricants sales and marketing director Andria Nusa said.
Stephen, who is expected to return to Indonesia on Aug. 19, is slated to test the endurance of the Enduro lubricant on various types of terrain, including the frigid Indian highlands, the deserts of Pakistan and Iran, as well as the European Alps.
