Chelsea News: Marcotti Makes Huge Manager Claim and Reveals Abramovich’s Intentions
CHELSEA’s managerial situation is in limbo with both Antonio Conte and Roman Abramovich waiting for the other to blink first, claims European football expert Gabriele Marcotti.
Conte’s future at Chelsea is in serious doubt after a turbulent season on and off the pitch at Stamford Bridge.
But Marcotti says the Italian boss does not want to resign and is waiting for the club to sack him, something owner Abramovich is not yet prepared to do.
The journalist reckons Conte could end up at French giants Paris Saint-Germain once his Chelsea exit is sorted.
“I think as everyone knows he has got another year left on his contract,” Marcotti said on Sky Sports.
“I don’t think he wants to resign, but I don’t think he necessarily wants to stay either.
Antonio Conte won the Premier League in his first season at Chelsea but has been unhappy with the club’s transfer business since.
Marcotti says his legacy will be very similar to his time spent in charge of Juventus.
“He’s remembered (at Juventus) probably in many ways the way he will be remembered at Chelsea,” he added.
“Somebody who is hugely intense, who gets the fans on his side, who wins things, who tactically can throw people a curve-ball or a googly.
“But with the same token, someone who wears his players out, I think maybe more so at Juve than at Chelsea.
“Also somebody at Juventus who spent a better part of the last two years talking about ‘we need to spend more, if it’s a €100 restaurant you can’t go in there with €10 in your pocket’ and ultimately that grates on clubs.”
