Quick Count States PDIP Losing in 11 Elections

Based on the quick count of 2018 regional head elections by a number of survey institutions, the governor candidates proposed by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle or PDIP had lost in 11 provinces out of 15 provinces. In the meantime, there was no survey institution that held a quick count in North Maluku and Papua.

Of the 15 provinces that have the quick count results, PDI-P only won in four areas namely governor elections in Central Java, Bali, South Sulawesi and Maluku. While the candidates proposed by PDI-P had lost in a number of provinces, namely North Sumatra, Riau, South Sumatra, and Lampung.

Here is the list of governor candidates proposed by PDIP who lost in the 2018 regional elections with a quick count version:

1. North Sumatra: Djarot Saiful Hidayat-Sihar Sitorus

2. Riau: Andi Rachman-Suyatno

3. South Sumatra: Dodi Alex Noerdin-Giri Kiemas

4. Lampung: Herman Hasanusi-Sutono

5. West Java: TB Hasanudin-Anton Charliyan

6. East Java: Saifullah Yusuf-Puti Guntur Soekarno

7. NTB: Ahyar Abduh-Mori Hanafi

8. NTT: Marianus Sae-Emiliana Nomleni

9. West Kalimantan: Karolin Margret Natasa-Suryadman Gidot

10. East Kalimantan: Rusmadi Wongso-Safaruddin

11. Southeast Sulawesi: Asrun-Hugua

Meanwhile, the PDI-P Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto said his party was not pessimistic to see the quick count results by the several survey institutions that put the two pairs of the governor and deputy governor candidates proposed by him to lose in Java. PDI-P wanted to wait for the official results from the Election Commission.

According to Hasto, the indication of winning and losing in a democracy is a common thing. “However, the actual recapitulation remains based on the calculation by the KPU,” Hasto said at the DPP office of PDI-P on Jalan Diponegoro, Central Jakarta on Wednesday, June 27.

What is clear, he said, PDI-P has made the best effort to bring the best regional head candidates. In East Java, for example, PD-IP has chosen Saifullah Yusuf-Puti Guntur Soekarno based on the recommendation of ulemas and NU figures. Based on the quick count results, Gus Ipul-Puti Guntur was defeated a bit by Khofifah Indar Parawansa-Emil Dardak.

However, Hasto said the slight difference between the two in the quick count did not determine the real victory. “If you look at the quick count, there is a difference between 6 to 2 percent, there is one percent. Wait for the results of KPU calculations,” said the general secretary of PDIP.
