17 Countries` Representatives Monitor Vote Counting at TPS 1 of Bekasi

A number of foreigners from 17 different countries represented the world in monitoring the process of voting and vote counting at Pekayonjaya voting place I (TPS 1), South Bekasi Sub-district, Bekasi City, West Java Province, on Wednesday.

“The foreign monitors serving in Bekasi City come from Timor Leste, Sri Lanka, India, Australia, Myanmar, the United States, Switzerland, and Denmark,” Bekasi City Election Supervisory Committee member, Tommy Suswanto, said here on Wednesday.

TPS 1 is the location of the election of Mayor of Bekasi candidate, Rahmat Effendi, in Pondok Pekayon Indah Estate, South Bekasi sub-district.

Foreign observers were present at the polling stations to undergo a comparative study of the democratic party in Indonesia.

He stated that the presence of monitors from abroad is part of an `electoral studies? program of the Election Supervisory Board.

“There are 40 countries involved in the program, but there are monitors only from 17 countries in Bekasi City, because others are in different areas,” he conveyed.

The other four regions in West Java Province that have been monitored for Regional Head Election are Bogor City and District, Serang, and Tangerang.

The foreign observers come from diverse backgrounds, including practitioners of the General Elections in their respective countries, supervisors, and other related social institutions.

The comparative study was conducted considering that the general election in Bekasi City is inseparable from its similarity with Jakarta City.

“The area is also adjacent to the capital, so that the characteristics of the community are equally heterogeneous, and their monitoring results will be the report material for comparison,” he explained.

The specific reasons for choosing TPS 1 Pekanyonjaya is due to Rahmat`s leadership in Bekasi.

“The level of participation will show the effectiveness of the socialization of candidates with local residents,” he added.

The group of foreign observers also observed the organizing of election in TPS 8 and 9 of Harapan Mulya Village, Medan Satria Sub-district; TPS 88 and 91 of Central Kaliabang Village, North Bekasi Sub-district; and TPS 4 of Perwira Village, North Bekasi Sub-district.
