Hanung Bramantyo Scouts for Talent in Netherlands for ‘Bumi Manusia’ Movie

Director Hanung Bramantyo is reportedly looking for cast members for his upcoming film adaptation Bumi Manusia (This Earth of Mankind) in the Netherlands. Kompas.com wrote that according to Bramantyo’s Instagram posts on Saturday, June 2, the director was seen together with Falcon Pictures producer Frederica meeting a local casting director and co-director to cast local actors.

Hanung explained in his photo captions that there would be a lot of Dutch characters in the movie, and he didn’t want the characters to be played by Caucasian-looking Indonesians just so that they can speak Indonesian.

“No. The Dutch actors, apart from having to speak Dutch in the film, as to how it’s written in the novel, have to be able to speak Indonesian too,” he said.

The director, who won the Indonesian Film Festival’s Citra Award for Best Director (Brownies in 2005 and Get Married in 2007), also posted the casting announcement on his Instagram account that Saturday.

Filming will begin in July at Studio Alam Gamplong in Yogyakarta, Semarang, Central Java, and the Netherlands.
