Soekarno-Hatta Airport Skytrain Switches to Autopilot in May

The state airline operator AP II Yado Yarismano explained the Skytrain of Soekarno-Hatta airport will be operable in autopilot mode, following the completion of Operation Control Center (OCC) construction.

“We will test [the autopilot train] in May before it is fully operable,” said Vice President of Corporate Communication of the to Tempo, Friday, April 27.

Since the train started operational in September 2017, the two trainset or four cars were controlled by the machinist. Thus with OCC, the Skytrain now will be the driverless train despite machinist stand-by in the site.

According to Yado, the trainset will be added gradually into 12 cars until June as to anticipate the traffic during Eid homecoming this year.

The additional trainset is expected to reduce the train headway from ten minutes to five in every stop as well as reducing the connecting time with the airport train.

Yado added the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Skytrain will serve the passenger in Terminal 3, Terminal 2, the Integrated Building, Terminal 1. One trainset of Skytrain able to accommodate 167 passengers.
